Today’s the day! Our 31 Days to an Organized Life starts NOW. Together we are going to tackle those cluttered rooms and those spaces that make us feel stressed, overwhelmed, and like we can’t ever catch up. I will be adding each day’s post to the Intro & Index page, so if you miss one, feel free to check back there to get back on track. Be sure to subscribe to the blog (“follow by email” on the right margin of the site) so you don’t miss a post! Miss a day or two of organizing? Don’t get discouraged and quit. We will keep moving forward, attempting to make up for lost time. Even if that happens I think you will end this month feeling such a sense of accomplishment…as long as you don’t get deterred by minor setbacks. How great will it feel to head into the holidays feeling organized???
With that said, we have some stressors in our life right now, and I can’t predict at the moment how things will play out these next few days, weeks or months. But I plan to keep chugging away, aiming for 31 posts in the 31 days, because I, too, need a lot of organization in my life! Believe it or not, even the most organized get disorganized. Life happens. Schedules get busy. Organizing is about identifying what has or hasn’t been working, identifying solutions, and implementing new systems. Sometimes we evaluate and have to change. Sometimes it works great the first time. Having a professional organizer help you can be a great way to tackle some of those things when you just aren’t sure where to start or what to do. Be sure to check out my Services page for more info on how I can help you do that. Otherwise, follow my lead this month and we’ll tame that clutter together!
Every organized (and maybe not-so-organized) person probably knows that a good place to start with any overwhelming task is to make a list, so that’s where we will begin this challenge. Your homework today is to do this:
- Grab a notebook and pen. That’s easy enough, right??
- Walk carefully through each room of your home, paying close attention to every bookshelf, every drawer, every closet. Where are there piles? What drives you crazy? What just isn’t working? Make a list of all the things that need organized, need fixed, need finished. Don’t worry that you may not get to it all in 31 days. That’s ok. Our aim is to START SOMEWHERE. Like I said before, even if we don’t get through all of it, you will have developed great momentum and have accomplished a LOT in one month…and you can take that momentum to keep going even when the challenge is over.
- Decide where you will begin. This depends totally on you and there is no right or wrong choice. Maybe it’s an area that gets most-used, like the kitchen or bathroom. Maybe it’s an area that just drives you crazy because it’s always a mess. Don’t stress over it or worry too much about where to start, just choose to start somewhere.
