The past couple weeks have been a whirlwind of 4-H projects, physical therapy appointments (been battling tennis elbow since May), running my daughter to activities, entertaining the daycare kids and trying to make the most of what’s left of our summer. The past week also brought a new transition for our family…I got a job!
I’ve been planning to phase out of daycare for some time, and this school year marks the first one that the kids currently in my care will all be going off to school full time. While having no other job is great for building a business that I haven’t had a lot of time to devote to, I need to be currently making more for our family than MBS is bringing by itself at the moment. But I also didn’t want to give up on this little blog and business that have such a big part of my heart. Another priority, which is also a big reason that I enjoy working from home to begin with, is the ability to be there as a mom for Faith and to not have to put her in daycare.
I applied for several positions and had a few interviews, and as God tends to do, He led me in just the right direction. The job that I was offered and that I accepted is a para position at my daughter’s school. We love our school and the staff is wonderful, so the work environment will be perfect. I will be with the Pre-K children, an age group that I am very familiar and comfortable with. One of the best parts, though, will be a total of 35 days off including holiday breaks, and summer off with Faith!
Right now I’m focusing on getting caught up, finishing the last few weeks of summer having fun with the kids, and getting the house organized for this new chapter. Then my plan is to create a daily and weekly routine that will help me balance everything that I want to do…the new job, our family time, Jazzercise (which I plan to continue teaching at least for now), and My Blissful Space. The hope is that with more structure to my day, less total work hours and less businesses to manage (and therefore less STUFF), that my work time for MBS will be more productive, more focused, and more frequent.
In preparation of this job change, here are my goals for the next few weeks:
- Enjoy what’s left of summer
- Purge daycare items (I already have begun donating many things, have other stuff ready to donate, and a garage sale on the schedule)
- Organize the kitchen (get rid of daycare supplies, reorganize and make meal and lunch prep easy for work and school)
- Start to plan work/school lunches and snacks
- Garage sale to clear remaining daycare supplies and unneeded items from downstairs and around the house
- Plan and shop for work clothes (already started…check my Instagram feed! ;))
- Make freezer meals for busy evenings
- Organize office space
- Organize drop zones and family calendar
On top of that, my husband built Faith a loft bed so we are AGAIN making over her room (we just changed up accessories this spring…those will stay but things are getting moved around). I have to paint that this weekend and will be sharing that space on the blog when it’s ready! If time allows it is also my goal to share these back-to-school organizing projects with you! Off to work I go…!
