I wound up home from work yesterday with a stomach bug and first thing this morning thought I felt well enough to get some blog stuff done. At the very least I wanted to take photos of projects that I’ve been working on since I was going to be around during good daylight for the pics. In the end? I managed to take pics of our Christmas decorations finally…and that’s about it! While my stomach was better, I was WIPED and slept half the day. I didn’t even have enough energy to do anything productive from my laptop. As it turned out, it took over 24 hours to get back to this post after writing the first paragraph! 😉 Christmas break is coming very soon so I hope to be able to get on here more during that time and to get a plan in place for more blogging in the new year! While I really like my job at school, I really miss blogging.
Anyway, I have several projects completed or in the works to share with you, but didn’t want to let Christmas come and go without at least posting some photos of our holiday decorations. With all the busyness, we didn’t get as much done decor-wise as we usually do. The lights didn’t get on the house before the cold hit (and this week the cold is severe so it ain’t happenin’ now, either!). What lights I did get up weren’t quite even…not sure how I usually manage the porch lights but as I was finishing it started drizzling and I just never got the motivation to take it down and start over. I nixed the evergreen over the doorways. For the most part, the rest of decorations aren’t much different than past years, though I did shuffle a few things around and I have to say I’m much happier with those little tweaks (despite the rest of the decor being more minimal).
The green bowl that usually holds my DIY decorative balls holds ornaments for the holidays…
Still my favorite area, aside from the tree, of course, is my faux mantle shelf with this Christmas vignette that includes the wood “Noel” letters, both of which my husband made for me. I switched up the vignette a bit this year and like it a lot better with the nativity in this prominent place, rather than in front of the TV. Jesus is the reason for the season, after all!
Since my berry sprigs were being used on the shelf in that vase, I picked up some other holiday sprigs at Hobby Lobby for the end table. I just can’t get enough of red berries this time of year!
The “Merry Christmas” banner I got at Target last year held up pretty well in storage and I still really like how much it adds to this wall. This year, instead of putting a wreath behind “Merry” on the window frame, I found a new spot for my grandma’s bells. These used to hang in her home and they’re a special way that I remember her at Christmas. (Well, that and her fudge. And caramel krispies.)
The red chevron pillow was a purchase last year at Target, and the snowflake was a bonus garage sale find for $.50 this summer! The ruffle pillows were a wedding gift five years ago and have migrated from our bedroom to the living room this year.
I mentioned that I moved the nativity from in front of the tv to the shelf. In its place, I found a new home for this wood box and I love this simple addition here! With some greenery and pinecones it softens the tv (though my hubby grumbles that it somewhat blocks the remote sensor ;)), and the overall change is so much better! I almost added lights but didn’t get that far, and I wonder if they’d have glared on the tv screen anyway. Regardless, I love it!
My deer friends moved from the mantle shelf to this dresser, another change that I’m really liking. The deer and some more berries and done! That crystal mistletoe decoration was from our wedding…since I didn’t get the greenery over the doors I didn’t get this hung up either. Next year!
I still don’t have a great place for stockings. The stocking holders are so heavy that I worry about having them on the shelf above our heads (ouch!). To put them on the dresser in the living room would make the drawers more difficult to access. So for now, they returned to the built-in shelf.
Not sure why but I didn’t take a photo of the tree while I was snapping pics yesterday, so here’s a cruddy iPhone one!
I still love that plaid ribbon I got last year…in fact, I forgot I bought it and almost got it again this year! Guess that means it was the right choice!
Expect to hear more from me in the coming weeks! Stay warm!
