In February I marked my one year anniversary using Young Living essential oils. Doing so has been a life-changer, and I’ll explain more about that next week, but today I thought I’d do a short post (because I need to get back to finishing the one about my desk organization! ;)) about what oils I use (wear…and why) and the other things I use them for within my daily routine. Throughout this post I am referring to Young Living oils only because I believe in the purity and high standards that Young Living puts into their oil production and Seed to Seal promise. If you’re going to put oils on or in your body, please do your research and make sure that they are not adulterated! I talk more about why YL oils and not others in this post here.
My original oil storage in the bathroom (for the oils I use daily or regularly), was becoming full as I added oils to my routine. My solution was to make a space in a drawer (where the toothpaste and floss is) for the ones I use every day. (I still need to label the tops so they’re easier to identify from above.)
Everything else is in the acrylic cosmetic organizer where the others started. These are oils I use for certain things or only occasionally, but for easy application made a rollerball for them.
Here is my daily line-up and what I use them for. For most I apply in the morning and at night as part of my routine when I’m getting ready for the day or ready for bed. (Please note that the FDA does not allow us to make medical claims or discuss medical diagnoses, so while I can’t say that an oil has helped with this ailment or that, I can say that I use an oil for supporting a specific system.)
(Notice the labels are a bit worn?? That’s from lots of love and use! And my “perfume” went through the wash accidentally. 🙁 )
Lady Sclareol – Hormone support. Applied morning and night to the clavicular notch (little indent between the collar bones at the base of the neck) or on the vitaflex points for reproductive organs, which is on the inside and outside of the right ankle.
Progessence Plus – This is a natural progesterone serum (hormone support). I apply two drops to one forearm and rub in with the other forearm, then two drops to either side of my neck over the carotid. I was having trouble sleeping and made the connection that it was related to my cycle. After using this I don’t have that issue anymore! Progesterone is great for so many things. I highly recommend this book for more info, written by the physician that created this oil for Young Living.
Ylang Ylang – I recently added this one to the mix for hormone support as well. I put it in a rollerball and use it over my wrists, vitaflex points on the right ankle (like Lady Sclareol), and sometimes up the inside front of both lower legs (over the Achilles).
Endoflex – Thyroid support (and this one smells awesome).
Thieves – This is great for immune support and overall wellness. I use it up the spine, on the back of the neck, or when I feel a sore throat coming on, over the front of my throat. I won’t likely need it as regularly as we get out of the winter months and cold/flu season, but it’s truly a game-changer when it is!
Seasonal Blend (Lavender/Peppermint/Lemon, 20 drops each topped with a carrier oil) – Seasonal support. A must from spring through fall, though I use it almost all year long. I use it twice a day over my chest and back of the neck, more often if my nose is especially itchy or I get sneezy. 😉
Custom blends – I have a couple blends that I’ve customized, one for thyroid support (to alternate or use in absence of Endoflex), and one for a fungal skin condition that I have. The recipes for these and some of the other blends I’ve made come from an oil reference guide that I have (I actually have two).
Signature Fragrance – A while back I came upon some sites that describe how to make your own perfume with essential oils. I wound up using a blend of Clove, Grapefruit and Frankincense and it’s AMAZING! I use this where I would perfume (wrists, cleavage, behind the ears…) when I want a little something extra.
Right now I’m dealing with female issues as well, so I currently have Dragon Time and another custom blend in the mix. They support my body through that time of the month, emotionally but especially for the painful part!
Other ways I use essential oils in my routine every day…
DIY Body Wash (which I also use to shave)
Young Living Lavender Mint Shampoo and Conditioner
DIY Face Wash
DIY Day/Night Creams
Grapefruit oil (or another citrus) in my water…two to three drops in a big glass water bottle (don’t do this in plastic!)
Using oils every day has become so natural, and despite the many that I use, it’s a very quick process. I feel naked without them, in some cases can tell physically when I forget, and get compliments all the time on how good I smell! I can’t imagine ever not having Young Living essential oils as part of my daily routine!
For the recipes that I haven’t yet shared, stay tuned and I will very soon!
