With a scrapbooking weekend with girlfriends approaching, I have photos on the brain! Organizing photos is a year-round need or problem, but we definitely take a lot of pics this time of the year. There are so many beautiful sights outside, and the holidays bring many memories worth preserving. So I thought that today I’d catch up on organizing the digital photos that are collecting on my laptop and share how I do that. (My computer’s on the fritz so I need to be more on top of it right now, anyway.)
Where the photos start…
Once I’ve uploaded my pictures from my phone or camera to my laptop, they’re in one of a few places. Phone photos get uploaded through Dropbox, which is an app everyone should have! This app allows you to wirelessly upload your pics (or files) to your Dropbox file on your computer (or tablet)…and vice versa…and I love that it saves me the step of plugging in and syncing!

After the pics get to my Dropbox folder, I simply select and “move” them to my Pictures folder on my laptop. There they sit until I have time to organize them into either my blog pics or onto my external hard drive, where ultimately all of my pictures and files are stored and/or backed up.
Once this is done all of my pics are in my Pictures folder, where I can more easily go in and organize. My camera pics currently upload to a dated folder under “Pictures”, so I usually move all those out into the general Pictures folder as well so I can organize how I want to.
How I organize the pics from there…
- Our family’s photos
- Daycare kids’ photos
- Blog photos
- Instagram pics
