Until yesterday I was ahead on posts, and I hope to get back ahead tonight. But for now, I’m glad to be writing and posting in real time so that I can share about yesterday and this morning.
Brad’s been on a fishing trip that he won with pro-fisherman Kevin VanDam, so it’s been just Faith and me the past few days. We went shopping yesterday, mostly for my decorating client, and since I’ve been making the trip to shop so much lately, I wanted to make it a short and fast trip. It was pretty tiring, especially since Faith was rather cranky and whiny for some reason. My patience was thin and I was sure one of us wasn’t going to make it through the weekend alive. (You know the days.) We managed to get back by 2:30, in time for me to get a much-needed nap (after a night of drinks and laughter with some of my girlfriends) and get ready for church. I cantored (led songs) at church, we grabbed a couple movies on the way home, and enjoyed a relaxing movie night together.
The first point I’d like to make is this: I was very conscious to be totally in the moment watching the movie. Typically when we do movie night together I do just sit and relax with her, but I’m sure there are times when I’ve “mutli-tasked” and worked on something else while “watching” the movie. I wanted to be sure that she knew I was there, in that moment, totally focused on her (and The Lego Movie 😉). After a movie-candy treat, she went and grabbed the big quilt out of the basket (which might be a post all in itself…it’s wonderful), and we snuggled under the blanket together. We weren’t necessarily connecting through conversation or activity, but she knew that Mommy was engaged with her and not distracted by something else. (I didn’t even get my phone out to take a selfie of us. ;))
We’ve been sleeping together while Daddy’s been gone but I needed to have a better night of sleep and the ability to sleep in (she’s been stirring and sniffling early in the morning), so I had her sleep in her room last night. I was able to sleep until 8:15, which was pretty awesome. Since waking up an hour-and-fifteen-minutes ago, I’ve started bread in the bread machine, made coconut flour pancakes for breakfast, put coffee on, we ate, and now I’m sitting in my pajamas…completing something and relaxing. I think we should go to church on Saturday night all the time because getting one day to slowly wake up, slowly get ready for the day, and just be kind of lazy is pretty great…and not something we get to do often enough.
God intended this as a day of rest and holiness, right?? Unfortunately our society has forgotten that, and now there are sports activities on Sundays, many people have to work, and because of our busy lives we have so much to cram in just to get it all done. (By the way, kudos to Hobby Lobby for closing on Sundays…It may be slightly inconvenient when I’m in town for shopping and can’t go there, but I have so much respect for them that they do that.)
I do have some to-do’s on the list for today and have to teach Jazzercise at 4:00, but my intention is to do those things and sprinkle in relaxation and time together. We have plans to walk with the dog, and Faith’s been anxiously awaiting Sunday night for Once Upon a Time. Brad will be home after we’re done with Jazzercise and grocery shopping, and we’re excited for his return and to hear about his trip!
So go enjoy YOUR Sunday, and be sure to find time to relax!!!
