It’s been a month-and-a-half since I posted about my plans to pare down my closet and create a capsule wardrobe. I love this concept and not having to decide among tons of clothes (most of which I’ll rarely wear anyway) has been so freeing. I have made progress towards that goal but as the weather changed I struggled with numbers of items because we’ve basically been in limbo between two seasons. But as things are more consistently cool, and as I’ve tried wearing some of the garage sale finds I picked up, I have continued to limit my wardrobe and determine which things I love to wear. Some garage sale finds have become my faves, others will be donated or resold…but for $1 or $2 each I can’t complain!
I need to do a final closet purge and will try to get some shots of me in the outfit combinations that I plan to hang onto and wear. I also need to find a great pair of jeans which is on my weekend to do list. But basically my core pieces are these:
3/4 length tees (Old Navy Vintage) – have in white/grey stripe, coral and aqua
various colors of tank tops (Old Navy Tami)
an ombré chambray shirt
long neutral cardigan
tunic length tops
black leggings (American Apparel Women’s Cotton Spandex Jersey Leggings)
brown riding boots
flats (have black, grey, leopard)
scarves for color and to change things up a bit
I’m living in leggings and love them (see link above)! They can be dressy or super casual, and are always comfortable. I love them with boots or flats (which are my shoe alternative when it’s too warm for boots). My go-to neutral color has become gray, and I’m finding that I would much rather wear that daily and change the look with colorful scarves or jewelry than to own several colors of shirts.
I also have a few “nice” shirts for the rare occasion that I go out or something, but for the most part I’m a full time daycare provider slash stay-at-home-mom and blogger, so what suits me best is something attractive but comfortable. Having the ability to easily dress something up to go out with friends is a huge plus!
Stay tuned for part 2 and some pics of my actual clothes (hopefully tomorrow)!
