Finding bliss in every day…
Faith and I spent some time on Good Friday decorating Easter eggs. I wanted to do something we hadn’t done, but also something easy and not super time-consuming. (Read: I wanted the moment and the memory but had a huge to-do list as well and didn’t want to clean out a bunch of bowls or get into some super involved process.) I contemplated painting with watercolors but wasn’t sure how that would work, and then came across a blog post where they did just that…and with the paints I already had on hand! Love it when things come together like that! They turned out really cute and if my vote counts we will be doing it again next year!
I had an appointment for the ob/gyn this week that had me worried to the point of tears. (Kind of a combination of things.) I was praying and asked friends to do the same. I cried on the way to the appointment, I cried as the nurse brought me in, and I cried again talking to the doctor. But my fears seem to have been unfounded, and I felt so much better after talking to her. Better yet, I didn’t have to have the painful procedure that I was anticipating having that day. After all that worry and exhaustion, I decided I needed a treat. However, I realized as I was in her office that many of my symptoms and medical “issues” are auto-immune/inflammatory/gut related (did you know that there may be an auto-immune link to endometriosis??). Though wine or coffee came to mind immediately for my treat, I decided right then and there that I didn’t want to keep prolonging these conditions/symptoms, and since I’m really not ready for a hysterectomy, that was also good motivation to eat better. I have been wanting to try one of the (very pricey) pints of dairy-free, non GMO, gluten-free etc. etc. ice creams in the health food section of our grocery store and decided that this was the day. Having a healthier option for a splurge kind-of-treat in my back pocket would be really helpful for days just like this. I settled on Coconut Bliss and it didn’t disappoint! A girl that I used to nanny for, who is now grown and on pregnancy #4, posted this one from Target that I also want to try!
Anyone that has been reading my blog or Instagram feed for any amount of time probably knows that I love planners. I am that girl that gets giddy when a new one arrives in the mail. I love filling out the pages of a clean, new planner that hasn’t been “ruined” by my hurried, messy handwriting. But recently I went back to using Google calendar because a) it’s more portable (my phone), b) I always have it (my phone), c) it’s free, and d) I can easily send events to Brad or sync calendars so that he knows what’s going on. (I also can’t mess it up with my hurried handwriting.) I’ve attempted to use electronic calendars before and didn’t stick with it for long. So far so good this time, but there has already been more than one instance where I felt like an event had been “lost” that I was sure I typed in, and my reminders aren’t syncing from Google calendar on my phone to the one on my laptop. It makes me nervous that I’ll continually miss appointments, so I may try a combo again for security purposes.
I’ve been eyeing these planners at Hobby Lobby for several months now (already have the cute carrying bag for my Living Well Spending Less planner). If I decide to go back to paper (or decide to get one for a blog planner), I think I’ll be trying the Happy Planner. I already have some ideas for customizing it to make it exactly what I’m after! And after years of pricey planners from Erin Condren and the like (and I love those, too, btw), you can’t beat the price, especially when you use that 40% off coupon! 😉
I don’t watch the news. Besides being all too depressing, frightening, and just giving me a negative view of our world, it’s usually on when I’m busy or sleeping. And I don’t get politics. I’m usually clueless about…well…a lot of things on the news (politics, sports, you name it). But I recently came across this daily news subscription, I decided to give it a try. It essentially gives you a cliff notes version of the news, complete with backstories, when applicable. I’m actually reading it! I love the comical way they share the headlines, and they kind of “dumb it down” for those of us that haven’t been following and don’t know what’s going on!
This time of the year things start to get really busy for us and I’m getting overwhelmed again with to-do’s. I’m going to keep working a little each day and continue to try and find some bliss amidst the crazy! Hope you have a fabulous weekend!
