Whew! August is over halfway over, school is in session, and I’ve been bizz-ayyy! Everytime I think I’m going to get to sit down and blog my schedule fills up. But I’m settling into our school routine (Faith and myself, since I work at the school). We’re just about two weeks in, and while I have some things yet to nail down with my routine, I’ve been making lunches for myself every day and Faith every day but one (that was my deal with her this year to try and give her the healthiest meals…she gets to choose ONE school lunch and I make the rest). I recently quit Jazzercise and am working on getting into a workout routine at home. It’s not perfect, but I’m getting there. I’m spending time in my planner every day (I know…NO BRAINER. But seriously, I needed to work on that!). I’m also on top of our budget and planning meals each week more consistently than I managed to do before. And I’ve made it a goal to do at least four Young Living classes a month, and I’ve been successful at that, too! My goals moving forward are to get back to regular blogging and better manage the housework. (Despite being home all summer I felt like I never picked up the vacuum. No lie.)
I haven’t posted a Finding Bliss Friday series for a long time, so since I was only going to get to post once this week, I figured I’d make it one of those! Instead of being a recap of just one week, though, this will be a recap of the last month or so! (I haven’t had time to take pictures this week anyway. ;)) In no particular order…
I got this new basket for my bike! It doesn’t match as well as I hoped, but maybe I’ll tackle that with a can of spray paint later. For now, I am excited to be able to ride more places and be able to run errands and build more activity into my day! (And I think it’s kinda cute.)
We enjoyed two fairs, our local one with our 4-H club, and my hometown’s fair. I love fair time! It was great having an “excuse” to wear my cowgirl boots, Faith and our club did great, and the food trucks didn’t disappoint. Authentic burritos and fried Oreos. Mmmmm.
Our garden has been dwindling down but there’s still quite a bit of good stuff growing! We’ve had more cucumbers and zucchini than I can keep up with, and the tomatoes are finally popping up like crazy. I have thoroughly enjoyed having our own garden again, and I won’t be the same after getting my hands dirty! Now to make some pickles!!
I started out the summer with a new planner, but after taking the Planning Like a Boss class from my friend, Michele Edwards of Faith Focused Entrepreneurs, I wound up switching to this Creative 365 Happy Planner. I’ll devote an entire post to how I used to plan and what I’m doing differently now, but so far this is working great and it is super cute! I am able to meal plan, track fitness goals, and stay on top of our budget all in one place, which is perfect for me.
One of my girls is missing from this pic, but we had a fun daycare summer! We spent a lot of time at the pool so I’m rocking the best tan I’ve had in years. We also enjoyed a few zoo trips, a safari day, and went to several parks. I certainly wasn’t ready for summer to be over, but getting into more of a routine is always welcome!
I mentioned that I quit Jazzercise recently. I love it and miss it, but I keep working on ways to manage my time better, and working out from home just made sense. I’m trying to get into a good routine of interval walking/jogging or riding my bike, plus adding toning at least a few days a week. Of course it’s somewhat easier now since the weather has been beautiful. But I’m enjoying not only being outside and having a chance to enjoy some solitude with my own thoughts (a rarity!), but about half the time my family joins me, so it’s been a great activity for us all to do together. I have a ways to go to nail down a good routine, though I’m eating much better during the week. I gained about 15 pounds this past year, so I’m definitely motivated to lose it!
I didn’t get a photo of the eclipse, but that was our big excitement for this week! A total eclipse passed through Nebraska, and though our town wasn’t in the totality and I wasn’t able to get off of work to go see it, we got pretty close and it was cool nonetheless. God has made some amazing things for us to enjoy!
We have another weekend at home with nothing scheduled (hallelujah!) so I plan to work on the blog as much as possible. I still have some back-to-school organizing projects to tackle, and I am SO ready for fall decorations! Bring on the pumpkin lattes!
