Well no shortage of bliss this week! We just returned the other day from Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, where we celebrated my sister-in-law’s destination wedding. It was beautiful and we made many good memories. Here are just a handful!
This was Faith’s first trip on a plane and we were both nervous. She was nervous because of the height factor, and the potential for crashing. I was nervous because she can be a bit anxious, and travel these days is just more scary all around. While she cried before takeoff on the first flight and said, “I don’t want to go,” she did ok and once immersed in her tablet (with the window shade closed ;)), she was fine. By the connecting flight (photo above), she had it pretty well down and we had in-flight movies, so she was happy. By the time we came home five days later, she said, “We should go to Florida!”. Success!
This was also Faith’s first time in the ocean (my second). We enjoyed strolling on the shore and they even had a water trampoline that she tried out. As Dr. Axe promised in his Eat Dirt book, the saltwater with it’s microorganisms was great for my skin, so I took full advantage of it when I could.
Mother’s Day was our second day at the resort and I was excited to get to celebrate with a mimosa at breakfast! Later that day the wedding guests were all invited to a fun afternoon on a catamaran, where we got to snorkel and swim in a natural pool. I had my first mamajuana (the native drink) and enjoyed a few rum punches! Not a bad Mother’s Day!
Besides Mother’s Day and the wedding, there was another celebration to be had while at the resort…Faith turned double digits! I was determined to make her 10th birthday as special as I could despite not being home for the traditional party with friends, etc. We had the wait staff sing happy birthday at breakfast and they brought a cake! Ironically I’d already ordered a cake to be brought out at supper that night, so this extra cake was a nice treat. Their cakes were delicious…pretty sure they were mostly made with almond flour and I’m determined to try and recreate them at home. If I succeed you’ll know about it. 😉
While at the pool, the housekeeping staff decorated our room with balloons and a Happy Birthday banner on the door. We knew they were going to do it, and I added streamers that I brought along before Faith came into the room and saw it all. Then that evening we ate at the Italian restaurant where I’d arranged for the cake to be served. She was so tired by this day, and just wanted to eat and go back to the room. I had to keep telling her to be patient, and I think she was glad she was when they finally came out with another (larger) cake and sang to her again. It was so cool! Not many kids can say they celebrated a birthday in the Dominican Republic, at a resort, and with so much fanfare. I hope she loved it as much as I did!
These guys were all over the resort, as common to see as a robin in Nebraska! I was as excited to see them on the last day (when this was taken) as on the first. They would perch on deck railings night and day, and we even saw some resting on patio tables. When we walked around the resort we’d find mamas with babies. There were even a few resident flamingos that we got within a few feet of. So cool! I’ll miss those birds!
The bride wants to be first to share wedding pics so I’ll hold off on those. I managed to figure out how to travel with my essential oils and was so glad I did…I’ll try to share how I organized for travel soon as well including this backpack that I got and loved! In the meantime, I’ve been getting organized for my daycare girls to return on Tuesday and to start a fun, relaxing summer! I’m ready to get into a summer routine and to get back to My Blissful Space. I hope it will be much easier now that I’ll be working from home for a few months again. Brad is working on Faith’s American Girl dollhouse (birthday gift) and we need to plant our garden. We have a nice, cool weekend ahead and lots to do…have a great one!
