It’s been a few weeks since I’ve had a chance to post this series and a lot has been going on! I have a lot to share, so in no particular order, here we go!
We spent the 4th in my hometown…my favorite place to celebrate! We enjoyed shopping around the square, delicious food from trucks, and of course fireworks! Brad and I even took some time alone to walk around and we found an old painted (mint) chair for the farmhouse table he plans to build me for outside! We also stopped for a cold beer at the new microbrewery.
Sometimes blissful moments are smaller…like when you realize that you coordinated your planner, planner case and iPad cover all by happy accident!
The Bestie, Faith and I checked out a nearby farmer’s market and I was so glad we did! I picked up tomatoes, kohlrabi, zucchini, carrots and honey, and then we did a little Target shopping! (Because why not?)
Homemade. Ice cream. Sandwiches. BOOM. Only the cookies were homemade, to be fair, but they were AMAZING. I could taste the brown sugar and butter in the cookies. (For the record, I make a mean chocolate chip cookie.) They were not healthy, however, and the cheap dairy ice cream gave me headaches and stomach aches both days that I had one. I will be trying these again with healthier ingredients and homemade dairy free ice cream!
I went out for a girl’s night to the imomsohard Live Summer Tour and it was a BLAST! I laughed so hard I cried, and afterwards had my first Moscow Mule. All the sugar didn’t agree with my body, but it tasted good! (Maybe another recipe I need to makeover??)
Young Living recently announced the release of new products, and we were all BLOWN AWAY with the news! Not only will Young Living now carry a sunscreen, insect repellent, and Seedlings baby care line, but they also purchased the Savvy Minerals make-up line! Creating a toxin-free home just got so much easier!!! (If you want to know more, talk to me here!)
I finally replaced almost all of my nonstick cookware with stainless steel. It’s just one more baby step towards healthier living. I already had a 12″ family skillet and a small sauté pan from Pampered Chef, so I finished off the “set” with this 10-piece WearEver set from Amazon. It was a recommendation from another blog, and I’ve been really happy with the purchase! Best of all, it was under $70 and they’re nice pans. They’re heavy enough to feel quality without being so heavy that I need to use two hands to lift each one. I like the glass lids so that I can see my food cooking, and they each have a strain and pour feature that’s nice for draining liquids and grease. If you are in the market, check it out here!
And last but not least. What’s a photo of my dirty legs and feet doing here?? Well, let me tell ya!
I have never had a green thumb. The only plant I’ve consistently kept alive is the peace lily that I got from my grandpa’s funeral almost 20 years ago. While that’s a long time to keep a plant, it’s only because peace lily’s are very hearty and when it starts to droop and look brown and sad, I know that it needs water. It immediately perks up after a drink, and life is good! But especially plants outside, forget about it. Out of sight, out of mind…and since most of my to-do’s were always inside, see them I did not.
Over the past couple years, though, I’ve started doing flower pots on the front porch. The full sun and direct heat doesn’t help, but I haven’t completely ignored those. (Read: Flowers are still alive.) And then this year we decided to do a full garden again. Brad tilled a plot in the yard for veggies, and made me an herb garden from pallet wood. I always feel clueless when I’m doing anything plant-related, but I was determined to try and learn from whatever mistakes may come.
Well, the sprouts came (most of them), and with each new growth I was giddy like a kid in a candy store! I have thoroughly loved watching the plants grow with each rainfall. I already harvested some huge radishes, and the cucumber leaves seem ginormous! (Maybe all that manure we hauled from the farm made for some super plants!) I’ll be picking lettuce for BLTs today!
Last night I weeded the garden and helped Brad mow the yard (also a feat, considering I could count on one hand how many times I’ve mowed in my life!). I’m finding that I love getting out of the house. I love getting dirty. I love breathing the fresh air and working with my hands and being alongside my hubby rather than him outside and me inside. It has been a such a refreshing shift in who I am and I love it!
I just feel like this past year or two has been a time of growth for me, spiritually, mentally, emotionally…and I think I get closer and closer to being the healthy person I want to be. As I said in my recent Live video (you can join the group and see it here), I feel God leading me towards the Young Living side of my business. I am redefining how I eat and even how I exercise. Eventually I’ll have it all figured out. (ha ha!) Regardless, I’m feeling good about where things are headed in my life, and that’s true bliss!
