Until this school year, I had a daycare child that arrived at 5:45 am, requiring me to wake around 5:15/5:30. She would quietly play while my husband and daughter slept, and I managed to get quite a bit done before taking kids to school. Without the need to get up, I just don’t. As much as I WANT to, both because I get a lot done but also because the quiet (almost) solitude is therapeutic, I just don’t have enough internal discipline to make it happen when that God-forsaken alarm goes off in the morning.
My husband, however, gets up when his alarm goes off (not a chronic snooze-hitter like me), and is a much more chipper morning person than I am. When he suggested that we start to get up together, I quickly said, “YES!”, because I knew he’d make it happen. The past two mornings he has gently woken me with a back-rub (and yesterday a “good morning, beautiful”). SOOOOO much better than an annoying alarm. 😉 Though I don’t have the solitude since he is also awake, the extra time together before Faith wakes has been very nice, and I’m still managing to get a few extra things done before the rat-race of the day begins. It starts my day off with good momentum, and I’m hopeful that this will take me into a productive Christmas break and new year!
This week we’re just working on the waking part. In the next week or two, I want to incorporate healthy eating into the mix and really set myself up for a great January. As long as he continues to help me I am positive that I’ll be successful!
Do you have any tips for things that help you get up earlier than you “have to”???
