Hello and happy almost Thanksgiving! I’m off work today and enjoying sitting around in my yoga pants with a coffee and soon some hot soup, and getting things done around the house! I haven’t had a chance to blog since my “getting my crap together” post a couple weeks ago because while I have been gradually getting into a routine and even have been finally in an organizing mood again (YAY!), I had a week or two that got really busy again. But my husband and I finally sat down to work out a consistent chore system for our daughter (will share after I see how it goes for a few weeks), I’ve been working on some DIY’s, and I’ve resumed organizing for clients and myself. Seriously, I haven’t had the time or motivation to organize our home in MONTHS, so this is a welcome change!
Today is The Bestie’s birthday, and we celebrated Sunday with a child-free mommy shopping day! I finally shopped at the new Container Store and it was her first visit there (I’d already seen it at the blogger preview but it wasn’t open for shopping that day). I got some Christmas gifts, some organizing items for myself, and a larger stainless water bottle for work…I mean, I couldn’t use the $50 gift card they gave me at the blogger preview all on gifts! (And if you spend $100 this month you get $20 to spend in December!)
After browsing every aisle of The Container Store, we enjoyed lunch (and dessert!) at The Cheesecake Factory before heading into the mall so Kim could do some clothes shopping without battling a toddler. (That’s a birthday gift in itself, isn’t it?!) She had the mango key lime cheesecake (delicious, but not chocolate!). I had this…
We had a great day shopping and she found some cute new boots. We even got to wander Target…one of our favorite pastimes.
I love that mug and the one I got Kim for her birthday from the same Etsy store was the inspiration for her gift. I decided to share this idea because I think it would be fun for anyone that loves coffee (or cocoa or tea!). This was the mug I purchased from Blue Sparrow Designs Co on Etsy (check out all their mugs…super cute!)…
Kim and I love coffee from Hill of Beans in Omaha, and since I wasn’t going to be able to get there before her birthday (without her, anyway ;)), I ordered online. If you can ever get to their store I highly recommend it…the fragrance from the second you hit the door is A-MA-ZING! In fact, just having the coffee in my kitchen (not brewed, just in the bags), fills my kitchen with these yummy smells. I came home last week and thought my husband was baking or something! I ordered three flavors, and since they only come online in 1 lb bags or larger, I divided them up between the two of us and put Kim’s in cute black bags from Hobby Lobby. I labeled them with a white chalkboard marker.
In our pre-k room recently, the teacher made chocolate covered coffee beans with the kids for a holiday donation basket. I love chocolate covered coffee beans (duh), and thought it would be a great gift idea. However, as it got closer I got more realistic and bought some in the bulk section of the grocery store. The teacher I work with tried them and said they were better and had more chocolate, so being lazy for the win! I put them in a glass jar with a round label on top.
I put everything in a wood tray from Hobby Lobby. I thought about painting it, but wasn’t sure where Kim could most use that size tray, so I left it unfinished as a prospective craft for her. (I hope she appreciates “getting” to do a DIY! If not, Kim, I’d be happy to paint it for you! ;))
When it was all in the tray with some tissue paper, I bundled it all up with saran wrap and twine. For someone that doesn’t have a coffee grinder, this would be cute paired with that. For cocoa lovers you could do flavored cocoas, a mug and mix-ins or toppings. The possibilities are endless!
More gift ideas to come as I’ve decided to start a “favorite things” holiday post series! Our family wishes yours the best Thanksgiving!
