This coming January I will have been blogging on My Blissful Space for two years! I blogged for a couple years off-and-on before that, but since I got really serious about it with MBS, that’s what I count as my blogging anniversary. As with most things in life, as a new year approaches we take a step back, evaluate what’s working and what isn’t, and determine our goals going forward. As someone who naturally likes to plan and organize, I do this regularly and the blog is no exception. I am constantly thinking about what I can do to make improvements, what I can learn more about to make the blog (and my business) better, and how I can serve and grow my readers.
I don’t always have the time to implement most of those ideas, but they’re always stirring around my mind!
The further I get into this blogging thing and the more I learn, the more I want to make this a large part of my business and income. That comes with a lot of time and hard work. I’m down with the hard work. I love blogging and I love to learn. Time (or lack thereof) is my biggest obstacle.
One thing I
want need to do is to monitor the blog stats better and more regularly. The stats help me see how many people are reading, where they come from, and what posts are the most popular so that I can bring you more of the stuff you like to see. It’s just one aspect of the behind-the-scenes work of blogging. Currently the blog is nearing the quarter million mark for page views (cuh-razy!) and one of the most popular posts is my teacher gift idea from last year. That one post has had over 13,600 views! That’s a lot of Pinterest traffic!!!
Social media is a big part of blogging, too, and I’m hit-and-miss with that. I love Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook, but need to get better about Twitter and Google+.
But most importantly, I want to improve the content. That’s what it’s ultimately all about!! I’m finding that holding myself to a certain blog schedule and being so busy (which can’t and won’t change any time soon) often causes the content of my blog to suffer, and I don’t like that. Not. One. Bit. There’s less time for projects which means less good stuff to share, and you guys deserve the best!
I’m not planning to take any scheduled time off from blogging until Christmas break, at which point I hope to spend some time learning as much as I can and developing a great plan for 2015. But in the meantime, I’m going to not put a five-day-a-week obligation on myself, and instead try to have three quality posts a week (give-or-take, depending on the week). That will free up a couple days to work on the backside, the projects, and the training that I’d like to complete.
I have a couple partnered/sponsored posts in the works (one is waaayyyy overdue) so I need to focus on that, and would love to wrap up some things that I intended to share throughout the year (ahem…final kitchen pics?!!!). And I also need to decide if I want to do any changes to the look of the blog any time soon.
So that’s what I have going on in my head, and what you can expect in at least the near future. In the meantime, I’d love your feedback as to what topics you’d like to see covered or any other changes you’re interested in! Please feel free to list those ideas in the comments or to email me. I appreciate your input!
