I mentioned yesterday in my cabinet painting update that we need to repaint the lower cabinets due to a color mis-match. This is the Sherwin-Williams swatch I took in to Ace, and the lighter grayish-brown patch is what we actually got.
I knew the second I got some paint on the cabinet that it wasn’t right, but let my husband convince me to wait and see how it dried. (A whole list of what to do and what NOT to do when painting cabinets is coming soon, and this will be on the list. If you don’t think it’s right, fix it before you go any further.) What I wanted was a dark, chocolatey brown, and what I got looks dark brown…in the dim light or shadows. But the end of the cabinet that gets direct sunlight looks slightly purplish-brown. NOT what I was going for. At. All. I could live with a lighter shade of brown. Maybe. But purple? Not-so-much.
Fortunately my husband is being a pretty good sport about it and will help me make it right. Not that it stopped him from texting coworkers something about the sentence for murder…”finished the cabinets and she doesn’t like the color she chose”, signed the Kitchen Killer. *sigh* If only it were the color I chose!
I’m not sure how soon we’ll get a chance to tackle the lower cabinets again. I’m very ready to have doors back on and be able to put things away, but I also want this done right. First I need to make a trip to Ace to fix the color! Praying things go smoothly and I don’t have to go all tough-girl on them. (I suck at tough girl.)
Assuming all goes well the next couple of days, I’ll share pics from the weekend and my list of tips!
