For those that don’t know about Pantone, they are the entity that determines the “hot” color of the year that then affects trends in fashion, home furnishings and interior design.
This year the color was emerald and I got totally on board with that one! I now am the proud owner of an emerald blouse, an emerald puffy vest, and coordinating gold and emerald jewelry. And if it hadn’t meant revamping my home decor in a significant way, you probably would have found it there, too.
I came close.
Even better – it’s my birthstone.
Nothing like having the “powers-that-be” tell you that you have the green light (hee hee) to proudly wear your birthstone and all that goes with it. (That makes me a dork, doesn’t it?)
It’s probably the first time since the 80’s that I loved a “true” green. I’m kind of sad for the year to end, but emerald will live on.
Have you heard the news? The 2014 color of the year is…
Hearing crickets right now.
My first reaction: Hmmmm. Purple.
Not my favorite.
Don’t get me wrong, this color is pretty, and I can think of several applications where I would like it.
In someone else’s house.
I just haven’t been drawn to purple in general since grade school…you know, the age when purple and pink was every girl’s favorite color? I’m realizing as I type that I did buy some purple tops last year, and in fact a couple were this shade.
But for decor in my house? Not likely.
I’ve been pretty consistent with reds, yellows, greens and blues for my entire adult life (the shades may vary, but the color families remain consistent). Maybe in a bathroom. Or a bedroom. But again, not likely.
I’m sure, though, that I’ll become enamored as all the blog posts flood my inbox with all the potential of orchid.
You can tell me “I told you so”. You can tease me for jumping on the orchid bandwagon. Maybe.
We’ll see. 😉
Are you excited for this announcement? What are your thoughts about orchid?
