Our basement got worked on Friday morning so I had the day off and headed out of town with Faith for a girls’ scrapbooking weekend at a friend’s. It never quite works out when we try to do that at someone’s home…especially with kids (or husbands) around. Just too many distractions and things to be done. But regardless we had a fun time, Faith was a huge help with the little kids, and I managed to get several pages done. I think Faith and I are going to hang at home over Christmas break and do a lot of scrapbooking (she’ll work on her own version, cutting and pasting paper and stickers into a book ;)). Looking forward to that!
We are happy with the work Thrasher did on our basement wall (settling) issues, and in fact Brad said he could hear the house move as they worked and cracks in the upstairs living room look a lot better! We got everything brought back in from the garage and pulled out of the piles we’d created in the far end of the garage, and most everything has a new home. We’ve been in the midst of waiting for that to be completed as well as wrapping up the kitchen makeover, so it feels good to be almost done with at least those two areas!
Of course one project begets another, and because it was raining the day Thrasher came, the yard got tore up a little. Brad seeded where the tree had been removed and in some of the areas that were driven over on Friday, so I’m anxious for a grass-filled yard again!
Brad painted the cement bricks in the basement after Thrasher was done, and between the fresh white paint and the openness created by the wall that we tore down, the basement just feels brighter and more open. We don’t anticipate finishing it before we move to another house, so we don’t really “use” this space except for storage, but it’s a huge improvement nonetheless.
Here’s the only photo I could (quickly) find of what it looked like before…there was a room to the left (we tore down that wall), and you can see the large crack on the wall that went around the basement. (This was before The Big Purge of 2014 so it’s reaaaaaallly messy!
|The silver brackets/braces are what Thrasher put in to stabilize the wall. We have white covers coming for them to hide them a bit.|
While I was gone Brad also finished painting the open shelves for the kitchen, and the baker’s rack is in place! Once the shelves are up and I figure out where everything is going to go, I’ll share pics and my excitement and hesitation with the final result. 😉
For now off to do some fall crafting. It’s a perfect cool day for it and I need something to do something relaxing!
