We are having just the most beautiful day here today, and despite the melting snow and resulting sloppy mess, I am determined to get some outside time in the sunshine! The kids and I ran a few errands this morning and I had to take my coat off – WONDERFUL! If I’d have realized it was going to be so nice we would have postponed errands to squeeze in a walk, but we’ll do that this afternoon instead. After months of being cooped up inside we’re all ready for some fresh air!
Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and one of my errands this morning was to pick up popcorn for the Valentine bags we’re making for Faith’s class. We started on them several weeks ago, and just have to do the final touches tonight. If you follow on Instagram or Facebook, you probably saw some of these pics already!
I had a little Pinspiration for these but wasn’t entirely sure where we were going to end up (and still don’t!). Faith and I started tracing hearts using a stencil…
I knew I could cut them much faster with my Pazzles, but out of laziness I didn’t want to mess with it, and I also didn’t want to completely make these myself. It felt like doing your kid’s homework. I wanted Faith to have her own stamp on them, to be part of the process, and I wanted it to be a project we could work on together. I could have picked a better day/moment when she would have been a tad more energetic about the process, but we pushed through… 😉
Once the hearts were traced, I outlined them with a black Sharpie so we could see the lines through Washi tape. Then I showed Faith how to line up the tape back-to-back across the hearts…
She was watching TV while we worked, but like I said, she wasn’t in the most creative, crafty mood…so you do what you have to do. She seemed to enjoy this step much more than tracing, of course.
When we were done taping it looked like this…
…and then I (yes, I…ME) cut them out. Faith wasn’t havin’ any of that. *sigh*
While she had been tracing, I used decorative scissors to trim a couple inches off the top of paper lunch sacks. I hadn’t really thought about what we were going to put in them, and thought I’d make them a bit smaller and create a cute edge at the same time.
We got all the hearts done and cut out, and the bags are all trimmed. Tonight we have to finish decorating the bags (actually put the hearts on them), seal up the bags (I think with the baker’s twine that I used for the hearts on my wreath), and fill them. We have colored popcorn and Valentine M&M’s to go inside.
I’ll show you the finished result tomorrow!
