Remember about three months ago when I said I discussed whether or not it was worth it to have a garage sale, and decided as I was writing the post that I wasn’t going to have my own this year? And then I shared my tips for selling on Facebook, remember that? Weeeeeelllllll…since then some things have changed.
First of all, while sales started out strong on Facebook and overall I had good luck, people started not showing up when they committed to coming and getting their items. That meant I was holding onto things longer than I wanted to, and ultimately some sales never went through. Very frustrating and very irritating, and definitely discouraging for those who want to utilize that avenue as a means to get rid of some stuff.
Second, we painted the kitchen cabinets, which meant removing everything from the cupboards. That led to me wanting to be more mindful about arrangement when they were done and more choosy about what things even came back into the kitchen. In addition, since the basement took a hit during that process, I’ve been cleaning out down there again and continue to find more and more stuff to get rid of.
Third, we have some not-so-fun projects coming up, like tree removal and basement structure repair/maintenance (however you want to classify it), so space needs to be made so these guys can work (on the basement one, at least).
And finally, my daughter has become quite opinionated about her wardrobe, so I’ve learned that rather than fight the battle of getting her to wear things that I think are adorable, I’m only keeping the clothing I know she’ll wear and getting rid of the rest. Fortunately most of it was garage sale/consignment purchases, so I’ll be able to recoup anything I spent, and it’s a great way to kick off reorganizing and redecorating her room, which I hope to get to in the coming months.
Soooooo…garage sale it is. The first weekend I had available was mid-to-late-July, but I rearranged an appointment that was scheduled weekend and decided to throw a sale together quickly for this Saturday. Aaagggh! It will be a lot of work in a short amount of time, but it will be nice to have it done and have things cleared out. With my Jazzercise schedule changing to mostly mornings in July and getting a lot of the big projects/messes out-of-the-way, I hope that life will be a lot less stressful!
Speaking of which, I may give myself some summer blogging liberties and might not post as often as M-F every week. Last week I let myself skip a day or two, and not feeling that pressure sure makes things better, too. It’s all about balance and simplification, right?!
